Two players key to deciding Midwest, West Division races are players of week
TAMPA, Florida -- Two players that will play key roles in their respective team's divisional races -- Jesus Penalver in the West for the OKC Certified Lions and Rainer Hauss in the Midwest for the Iowa Demon Hawks -- have been selected as the Week 1o Major Arena Soccer League Offensive and Goalkeeper Players of the Week.
It is the second time in 2025-26 for Penalver, who is leading the 5-0 Lions in scoring with goals (17) and points (19), witch is also tops in both categories in the league overall. He played last year for Chihuahua, and in seven games had 19 goals. He had three goals this past weekend as OKC staved off an upset bid by the Texas Spurs.
Hauss, a veteran of more than three dozen games in the MASL, allowed just two goals in a huge road win over the Wichita Wings. He has been with the Demon Hawks in all four of their seasons as their No. 1 netminder, and went 15-0 in helping his team to the 2023-24 MASL 2 championship. He also backstopped the Florida Tropics to the MASL championship series in the 2021-22 season, where they fell in a pair of one-goal losses to the champion San Diego Sockers. In that playoff run, he had an incredible goals against average of 3.81 and a saves percentage of .822.
