TAMPA, Florida -- North America's largest city got its first taste of Major Arena Soccer League 2 action, albeit on the road, but they liked what they saw nonetheless as Mexico City won both games on its weekend swing through California to highlight Week 7 action.
Asuncion defeated Turlock on Friday night, in the season opener for both teams, and one night later disappointed MASL fans in Northern California by spoiling the Soccer Central Black Hawks debut.
Fans south of the border were highly entertained by an 'instant classic' in Sonora, where the talent-laden Soles fell in overtime to the OKC Certified Lions. Utica's United Elite Krajisnik wrapped up weekend play by defeating Salisbury in the first half of a MASL / MASL 2 doubleheader at the Adirondack Bank Center.
Week eight has huge matchup all over the place, but none will likely be as intense as the matchup in Hermosillo where Mexico City will travel to meet Soles de Sonora. The Iowa Raptors and Wichita Wings clash at Heartland Credit Union Arena in Park City, Kansas, with both coming in with 3-0 records, and the Omaha Kings, who you can bet will be heard from sooner rather than later, will play a pair at home in Baxter Arena.
Also a highlight: The last MASL 2 team to start its regular season, the Guadalajara Mariachis, will debut in the MASL pyramid at home with a pair against the Turlock Cal Express.
