It's Mexico City vs. Omaha and OKC vs. United Elite in opening round of playoffs

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Major Arena Soccer League 2 will crown a new champion to conclude its ninth season of action when six teams vie for the title trophy starting today at the SIG Sportsplex.

First round games will start at 4 p.m. when the Omaha Kings (No. 6 seed) match up against Mexico City (3). The nightcap will feature the OKC Certified Lions (4) meeting Utica's United Elite Krajisnik (5). 

Both games will be broadcast free of charge on YouTube, as will Saturday's semifinals and Sunday's Championship Game at Baxter Arena in Omaha. Links for Friday's two games cane be found below.

OMAHA KINGS VS. MEXICO CITY, 4 P.M. CDT FRIDAY, APRIL 17

OKS CERTIFIED LIONS VS. UNITED ELITE KRAJISNIK, 7:30 P.M. CDT, FRIDAY, APRIL 17

Saturday's matchups will include the No. 1 seeded Harrisburg Heat kicking off at 7 p.m. CDT against the lowest remaining seeded team from Friday's first round. The Iowa Demon Hawks, the No. 2 seed who also got a first round bye, will match up against the highest remaining seed in a 4:30 start Saturday.

The league is assured a new champion, after the Chihuahua Savage 2 won last year's crown in double-overtime against the Iowa Demon Hawks who are making their third straight playoff appearance, They won the league title two years ago in defeating the Rochester Lancers , 8-3. None of the other five teams have won a championship., although United Elite won last year's Consolation Finals game.
