TAMPA, Florida -- Five of the six teams for next weekend's MASL 2 playoffs are set, but there is one final spot up for grabs and wouldn't you know it, it's between the two teams playing at the Danbury Arena in Connecticut Saturday and Sunday.
Both Spice City FC and Utica's United Elite Krajisnik are alive for the last spot, with the two playing two in Danbury. Utica needs just one win, in regulation or overtime, to insure their spot in the playoffs. Spice needs to win both to keep their hopes alive.
If they do win both, they will have make up games during the week against FC Baltimore 1729. Earlier games between the two were postponed because of severe winter weather and the death of the father of Baltimore owner and coach Ron Dawson a day prior to a scheduled recent game day. Those games will not be made up if Utica secures at least one win this weekend.
Otherwise, the other five teams in the postseason have been set: The Iowa Demon Hawks, Mexico City, OKC Certified Lions, Harrisburg Heat and the Omaha Kings who qualified as the host teams for the semifinals and finals. Final seeds for next weekend's games will be determined at the end of this weekend of action.
The first and second seeds will get an opening round bye, with two quarterfinals games at 4:30 and 7 p.m. CDT at SIG Sportsplex in Des Moines on Friday, April 17. Semifinals are on Saturday and Sunday at Baxter Arena in Omaha.
